A domain name dispute involving the New Zealand postal service and
the telephone listings service Yellow Pages in New Zealand has gained
some attention in the country and has now been settled.
The dispute involved the Yellow Pages accused of registering websites
and Google search terms in an attempt to divert internet traffic away
from its rival Auckland directory, Localist, owned by the New Zealand
Post, and which will be launched later this year, reports
BusinessDay.co.nz.
According to the report, “the state-owned enterprise says the matter has
been resolved on commercial terms and Yellow Pages has agreed to
transfer ownership of the contested domain names, which are variations
on the name Localist, to NZ Post.”
Another report, in Computerworld, notes “Yellow registered several URLs
close to localist’s name, including localists.co.nz and
locallist.org.nz.”
