The domain name industry had a good year . Here are the top domain name stories for 2011 :

1. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved new .XXX Top Level Domains .ICANN approved the new .XXX TLD in March 2011 .At the time,ICANN's CEO ,Rod Beckstrom abstained from the vote .

2. Gay.XXX sells for $500,000,the highest price ever paid for a domain in any extension pre-launch .

Gay.xxx domain name has been acquired by Corbin Fisher for $500,000 .Moreover,this is the one of the top 30 most expensive domain names sold in the last three years .

3. PETA decides to launch PETA.XXX .

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) came up with a new and interesting way to get some attention .They intend to launch a porn site for animal welfare . Even though other organizations,such as Red Cross decided to block its .XXX domain name,PETA decided to launch PETA.XXX in an attempt to draw attention to the plight of animals .

4. SalesForce,the mysterious buyer of Social.com .

Social.com domain name is the largest reported domain name sale of 2011.The domain name was sold in late June for $2.6 million.For a long period of time,no one knew who the buyer is .In September 2011,SalesForce was discovered to be the real buyer of the largest reported domain name sale of 2011 .

5. Monte Cahn filed $13 million suit against Oversee

Monte Cahn filed a $13 million suit against Oversee.net ,Jeff Kupietsky and Lawrence Ng.Monte Cahn contended in the lawsuit that Oversee hasn't paid him any of the $13 million in the incetive plan .Moreover,Oversee had to pay monte Cahn 50% of its comission for the sale of Restaurants.com domain name and it has failed to do so .
