SIDN, the .nl registry, was today awarded a TÜViT certificate for the software that forms the basis of the domain registration system, DRS5.
Featuring various new functionalities, DRS5 is the latest version of the system used to register .nl domain names. The certificate has been issued by TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜViT) and the Software Improvement Group (SIG). The DRS5 software was given a four-star rating – the best possible being five stars – reflecting a high degree of maintainability.
Evaluation criteria
SIG decides whether a software product qualifies for certification by using a largely automated source-code analysis technique to measure the product’s maintainability. Developed and validated in the context of SIG's auditing activities, the analytical model is aligned with the ISO/IEC 9126 standard and builds on extensive global research. The multi-layer model first addresses quantifiable software variables, such as volume, complexity and duplication. The data from this analysis are collated to form quality profiles, and ratings are produced for the individual system variables. These findings are then combined with the ISO/IEC 9126 quality characteristics to calculate an overall rating on the five-star scale.
