Dutch domain registry SIDN said that the number of .nl domain names rise 18 percent, from 495,467, to a total of 3,191,127.

The Netherlands has 28 Dutch domain names per 100 inhabitants, the highest domain name concentration in the world..nl is the market leader, with a 70 percent share, despite competition from .com, .net, .info, .org, .biz, .eu, and other top level domain names. SIDN said it sees private sites growing in the next year, with the number of private sites increasing 38 percent in 2008. There are about 250 country domain in the entire world. The .nl domain name stands in the fourth place worldwide, after China, Germany and the UK.
