Seasoned Internet Policy Expert Named as ICANN’s Latin American Representative

Rodrigo de la Parra, the Director General of Prospective Regulation of Mexico’s Federal Commission of Telecommunications (Cofetel) has been named as ICANN’s new Latin American representative.

De la Parra has also served as the Mexican representative to ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), which gives governments a voice in the organization’s policy formation.
“We feel extremely fortunate to have Rodrigo joining the ICANN team,” said Rod Beckstrom, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are impressed by his deep understanding of Internet policy issues, his familiarity with ICANN’s bottom-up, multi-stakeholder model, and his stellar professional reputation throughout Latin America.”
De la Parra has been an active participant in international organizations such as the Latin America Regulation
Agencies Forum (REGULATEL), the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (OAS-CITEL), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the World Trade Organization (WTO).
He has a Masters Degree in Political Economy and international affairs and lecturer of International Organizations and Economic Negotiations and Consultant to the Latin American Cooperation for Advanced Networks (CLARA).
De la Parra begins his new position with ICANN on January 10, 2011.
