During his speech at the opening ceremony of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Rod Beckstrom said that the multi-stakeholder models represented by both ICANN and the IGF allow for global inclusivity and openness, making the Internet a "fertile field for innovation and competition, an engine for economic growth."
And if that multistakeholder model were to be altered for any reason, "we would lose the foundation of the Internet's long-term potential and transformative value."
Also during the IGF, Rod Beckstrom delivers a speech at the UNESCO Forum, stating, UNESCO and ICANN share a commitment to full internationalization of the Internet to preserve our heritage and to ensure that mankind/s greatest communications tool embraces all people around the world.
