Connectingnyc is preparing to make an application for the .NYC gTLD, and the proposal has made the New York Times this week.
The report notes Connectingnyc was handing out fliers to New York City workers to solicit ideas and gain publicity.
The report outlines the process Connectingnyc will have to go through,
including its application to ICANN, and the people behind the proposal.
There is even expected to be legislation introduced in the next few
weeks by city councilwoman Gale A. Brewer, chairwoman of the Technology
in Government Committee, in support of the bid.
"A .nyc address gives New York City a recognizable brand name on the
World Wide Web," Ms. Brewer told The Times. "It lets New Yorkers and
anyone else search for and find New York City businesses and nonprofit
organizations, and helps us further enhance our economic development.
It also shows that New York City is truly a digital community on par
with the other tech centers across the globe."
