Nominet shuts down 3,000 .co.uk websites

Nominet held recently a meeting in London with authorities including the Metropolitan Police and the Serious and Organised Crime Agency .At the meeting Nominet announced that they have already shut down more than 3,000 .co.uk websites .
They now plan to introduce a new system that would allow them to suspend .uk domain names.
Most of the .co.uk domain names shut down so far were accused of selling counterfeit goods.
If Nominet will manage to implement this system, the content of websites targeted by the system will still be online. However, their links to other websites would be broken.
According to Telegraph.co.uk ,“Authorities are lobbying against limits on the types of allegations they could make to trigger domain name suspension.”
