LONDON, 23rd October 2008, Nominet, the registry for .uk domain names, has launched a domain resource at www.keepyour.co.uk to help businesses and individuals with .uk web addresses learn more about how, why and when they need to renew their domain names.
Nominet’s 2007 Domain Name Industry Report revealed that in the next two years, over 140,000 .co.uk domains will be re-registered in less than 10 seconds after they become available, making it vital that organisations renew their domain name before someone else does.
The site was developed after consultation with .uk registrars. It is aimed at small business owners and marketing professionals, essentially those most closely involved with brand management.
www.keepyour.co.uk provides detailed information about the renewals process and enables visitors to enter their .uk address and find out when it is due for renewal. The various stages of the renewal process are illustrated by a hedge cut into the shape of .uk. If the domain name is up to date, it is tidy and well trimmed. If the domain is close to its renewal date or needs some attention the .uk is overgrown and unkempt.
The site also provides contact details for the registrar that manages the domain name to ease the renewal process. Nominet hopes that the new site will encourage domain name owners to look after their domain name and renew them promptly.
Phil Kingsland, director of communications and marketing at Nominet explains: “Renewing your domain name in a timely fashion is a simple but essential step to protecting your online brand from being hijacked. www.keepyour.co.uk is a resource that makes it easy for businesses to find out how, why and when to renew their .uk domain. .”
