Asia domain names that serve multiple applications have been received during the landrush to the highest bidder. In total, these are roughly 40,000 names to be auctioned this month which the latter still on the schedule.

Active ImageMonterrey, Mexico  - Looking to position Mexico’s name on the Internet through the usage of .MX domains, NIC Mexico is launching a new program for distributors, and it is also releasing tools that will allow a greater number of distributors around the world to market the .MX domains.

With this action, NIC Mexico allows .MX domain holders to have access to a wider offer of Internet-related services, allowing them to choose the supplier that is best suited for them, and that covers their needs in a greater extent. NIC Mexico continues to implement the best practices from the domains industry, now standardizing its processes with the industry at a worldwide level. For that reason, today it is launching the new site www.registry.mx for its service division to Registrars (distributors).

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. Lightning struck twice as we saw not just one rare 6-figure .org sale, but two of them in the same week! In addition to leading our new Top 20 sales chart, those two domains rank among the year's three biggest sales in our Global Contenders category (non .com global TLDs - .net, .org, .info and .biz).

It was also a huge week for the country codes as seven ccTLD domains made the all extension Top 20. The country code charge was led by two big French ccTLD sales, one that ranks among the year's ten biggest country code sales and another that ranks among the top 15.

ICANN recently approved draft proposals that would see the biggest ever expansion of domain name choice.

Under the draft proposals anyone would be allowed to apply for a generic top level domain (gTLD), resulting in an unlimited number of gTLDs. Currently, there are a limited number of gTLDs, including .com, .net and .gov (and .com.au, .net.au and .gov.au in Australia), which are strictly controlled by ICANN and each country’s internet regulatory authority (for example, .au Domain Administration for .au domain names). ICANN has introduced several new gTLDs, such as .biz, .travel and .asia, but the draft proposals could allow gTLDs such as .ebay and .yahoo.
