In January, a controversial decision was made by the Nominet Dispute Resolution Service ordering that MySpace.co.uk be transferred to MySpace.  The decision was controversial because MySpace.co.uk had been purchased before the well known MySpace even existed, and its use as a parking page had not changed because of the existence of MySpace.

An independent appeals panel has now overturned this decision.

SWITCH, the .ch registry, have released an interesting analysis of where registrants come from of .ch domain names. As could be expected given its concentration of businesses, Zurich has the highest concentration of domain names with 102,334 domain names as of end 2007. Bern (32,106), Basel (27,980) and Geneva (19,287) follow. The analysis also shows one in every ten Swiss residents has registered a .ch domain name.

I just received an email from Whypark founder, Craig Rowe outlining that he's just received an angel investor to spur WhyPark's growth. This is great news for any entrepreneur and Craig should be congratulated for securing the additional funding.

Sample Image According the press release Whypark is currently managing over 41,000 domains, which is quite a number. Click here if you would like to read the full version of the press release.

On the same flight back home from San Fransisco I noticed how conceptual marketing helps generic domain name owners I also noticed of a rising trend, “leading domains”, domains which start with “goto”, “on”, “in”, “at”. “4″. This trend is related to the “Radio Test”. What is the “Radio Test”? Dan Warner, in an old DNJournal article, explains:

As widely reported by now, FMA has lost LH.Com in a NAF ruling.

While many think this is a disgrace (which I tend to agree), this decision, because it involves FMA, is not the worst thing that could have happened.

Andrew Bennett writes in his blog about two important ‘polls’ that are currently under way at Nominet: Special Resolutions & Board election.

Apparently, this year Nominet has rather surprisingly sent out a letter to all members telling them to vote against three of the candidates: download letter here. As you can see, Angus Hanton (elected non-executive) hasn’t signed the letter. Mr. bennett believes this is because he sticks by his 2007 election statement: “I am in favour of control of the board staying with the members”.

Also on the 24th April 2008 the three candidates appeared on The Register as a “trio”:  see article here

The ONLY reason the trio were linked together at all by Nominet was because they disagreed with special resolution 6 even though they gave valid reasons why in their election statements (see below). Finally there has been a false rumour circulating on nom-steer about Jim Davies, that was based on incorrect information (please see his additional statement below).

The candidates have therefore provided additional statements as requested by Nominet:
