ICE,the Immigration and Custom Enforcement agency has accidentally seized 84,000 domain names ,in an ongoing operation against child pornography .
Soon after ICE was allowed to seize the domain names,they forced the websites to post the following message :
"This domain name has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations,pursuant to a seizure warrant by a United States District Court under the authority of 18 U.S.C. 981 and 2323 .
Willful copyright infringement is a federal crime that carries penalties for first time offenders of up to five years in federal prison ,a $250,000 fine forfeiture and restitution.Intentionally and knowingly trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime that carries penalties for first time offenders of up to ten years in federal prison,a $2,000,000 fine ,forfeiture and restitution."
However,ICE made a big mistakes.They seized also Mooo.com,which caused the seizing of other innocent sub-domain names .Most of the accidentally seized domain names were being used for personal or business use and not for child pornography.
Even though the Department of Homeland Security issued a press release regarding the seizure they forgot to explain the big mistake .
