Groupon has recently won Groupon.ie domain name through arbitration . .ie comes from the country code domain name for Ireland .
Groupon filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO),asserting legal rights over the disputed domain name .
Groupon owns many trademark registration for the "Groupon" mark.Therefore,they contended the disputed domain name is confusingly similar to its trademark.Moreover,they contended that the respondent registered and used the disputed domain name in bad faith .
"The Registrant is instead using the disputed domain name intentionally to attract Internet users to his website by creating a likelihood of confusion with the Complainant’s mark as to the source, sponsorship, affiliation or endorsement of the website for commercial gain in the form of click-through commissions when some of the diverted Internet users follow the links on the Registrant's website."
The Panel ordered the disputed domain name to be transferred from the respondent to the complainant.
Until now,Groupon has used the CityDeal.ie domain name.Even though Groupon.ie hosts a parked page of ads for the moment,they will start using the domain name as soon as possible .
