The number of registered “.es" domains surpassed the 900,000 mark in March for the first time in its history, after growing by 78.8% in less than one year and a half, counting from December of 2006.

The number of ".es" domains reached 907,821 sites by the end of March. During the three first months of 2008, 102,494 domains have been registered, which represents a growth of 12.7% compared to December of 2007.  In March alone, 21,942 new “.es" domains were registered!

The popularity of the ".es" domain has grown ten fold since December of 2004, when the number of “.es" web sites reached 85,309. The biggest increase in the number of “.es" domains was produced this past year, when 297,453 new domains were requested and registered. This clearly indicates the strength of the domain market worldwide and the growing popularity of the internet as a vehicle for commerce and leisure.

If we continue to see the same growth rate for the rest of 2008 as we have seen the first three months, the annual growth result in 416,809 new registrations. More ".es" domains have been registered in Spain than ".com" domains, pointing to the ever growing popularity of local ccTLDs that give each country its unique identity.

To register your own ".es" domain we recommend EuroDNS as you registrar!
