Tomorrow I'm off to Domainermeeting in Paris. It's another long flight but being from Australia you get pretty used to those! It will be great to catch up with all of my friends again and also get to know a lot of new European friends while I'm there.

In a year that's saturated with conferences it initially appeared that Domainermeeting was going to have a difficult time getting numbers and sponsors to support the event. This definitely is not the case! The domainer meeting website is filled with sponsors all wanting to get exposure to the European market. I haven't had a chance to catch up on the numbers of delegates but from all reports Domainermeeting appears to have gained a lot of support from Europe, USA and other international countries (such as Australia). I'm really looking forward to meeting every there!

I've just received a skype message from Dan Kimball of dnZoom. He's a great friend and one of the guys who are constantly trying to get me to move to Louisville, Kentucky. One of the really nice things about our industry is meeting great people like Dan and Sean (also from Louisville and dnZoom) who are both really genuine people who you can trust completely.

So what was the Skype message all about? He just let me know that Bido (of which dnZoom is a part) is launching its first auction this Wednesday. It's been a while coming but I'm sure that the wait will be well worth it.

I just got word we are in the final stages of securing a number of domain submissions from users. Once we complete the process (contracts, domains at Moniker escrow account ) we plan to list these on Bido with a Bido Guarantee (How Bido works? ). If you have any domains which fit our criteria and you are interested in listing, the process is quite easy.

While at Domain Roundtable in San Fransisco last April Alyette and I went sailing in Sausalito . To say the most beautiful of cities I’ve seen in a long time is a complete understatement. And the real estate? where to start? Prices are somewhere between “high in the sky” to “heaven!”.

So today, while checking my email, I saw Rick Latona’s newsletter in my mailbox advertising Sausalito.com for US $150,000.00. In my humble opinion, and while many know I’m not a fan of Geo domains when it comes to passive investments , in terms of development, this one is a rare gem!

More than 92% .lt domains successfully resolved to IP address during our test (resolving domain name is first step performed by your computer when opening website URL). Addresses of domain name (e.g. domain.lt), and www. subdomain (e.g. www.domain.lt) where checked (any other subdomains, e.g. some.domain.lt where not analyzed)...

Earlier today, while browsing a couple of domain forums (NamePros , DNForum , DomainState), I saw a poll on DomainState that indicates the first batch of Bido domains is weak. Our take on it is it’s all relative. “Weak” in comparison to what? Million dollar domains? six figures domains? For what we’re doing, starting price of 1$ and no reserve, we feel these domains are extremely strong. The question we asked some of our friends before the list was chosen was: would you bid 10$ for this domain? Would you pay 100$ for that? How about 1K, or 5K? The responses to these questions on the list published were all in the four and five figure range. Now will these domains actually go for these prices? This is what we’re all going to find out. It is not what I believe they should sell, it is not what other believe these domains should sell, it is about what the market will bear at the time of auction.

Active ImageOne of the WIPO domain dispute cases that seem to be interesting to follow involves C S Lewis,  the author of the popular book and movie series "Chronicles of Narnia".

In 2006, the Richard and Gillian Saville-Smith family, residing in Edinburgh, Scotland, paid about $140 dollars to purchase the Narnia.mobi domain as a surprise present for their 10-year-old son who loves the book series. The domain name was supposed to be a surprise for their son's birthday which supposedly coincided with the British release of the film "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian"...

Reuters Press Agency is reporting that as part of the Kremlin’s initiative to promote Russian as a global language, the nation’s president Dmitry Medvedev sent a request to ICANN requesting a dedicated Internet domain name for Russia in the Cyrillic script.

Medvedev, who views the  move as a matter of Russian pride, said that 300 million people around the world use the Russian media, and that a Cyrillic domain name would play a central role in raising the importance of Russian as a language.  The mission is his personal priority as president, he said. "We must do everything we can to make sure that we achieve in the future a Cyrillic Internet domain name -- it is a pretty serious thing," said Medvedev, addressing the International Congress of Russian Press in Moscow...
