 EURid, the European registry for .eu, is pleased to report a rapid increase in .eu Internet domain names. In six countries total .eu domain name registrations grew by more than 60% when the second quarter 2008 numbers are compared to the same period last year. The average growth for the whole European Union was 15%, according to the second quarter report from EURid. You can read the full report at http://www.eurid.eu/files/Q2_08.pdf .

 As the result of the de-accreditation of Esoftwiz Inc. (IANA ID 614), ICANN is seeking Statements of Interest from ICANN-accredited registrars that are interested in assuming sponsorship of the gTLD names that had been managed by Esoftwiz Inc.

 Conference registrations for Domain Convergence, the first Canadian
domainer conference, are now open for anyone interested in attending.
Domain Convergence will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario from 6-8
October and seeks to discuss and inform attendees on happenings in the
domainer industry. The conference will focus on domain name development
and monetization as well as domain portfolio management.

The RIPE NCC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, is to hold a roundtable meeting for governments and regulators on Monday, 29 September 2008 at the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel.
Up to 20 government attendees will attend from 15 countries to gain a better understanding of the best practices relating to IPv6 uptake and integration. Discussion will focus on transfers of Internet address space in the run up to IPv4 exhaustion, which is estimated to happen within the next four years.

EstDomains, the 49th largest domain name registrar, with more than
270,000 domain names, is accused of being one of the largest sources of
spam with 10,000 of their domain names currently blacklisted by
SURBL.org, which tracks Web site names that are advertised in junk
email reports The Washington Post.
