Niagara Falls, Ontario - At long last a new association promising to address the concerns of Canadian domain owners is being launched. In order to represent the interests of Canadian domain name owners, the Domain Owners Association of Canada (DOAC) aims to protect and increase the value of its members’ domain names.
“It’s high time Canadian domain owners get their voices heard,” says Peter Maxymych, President of Emall.ca and founder of the Domain Owners Association of Canada. “Domain owners in Canada have often felt like they are working alone. This does not have to be the case. With this association we can work together to promote our interests in domaining.”

It’s been a month since I last updated the blog. During that month I mainly rested, focused on reading, as well as visited the Traffic show in New York City. The show I felt was a success, the food was great, Rick and Howard once again delivered on their promise, that is, bringing the best in the industry together. While I missed most of the panels due to meetings I had a chance to catch a couple, and I truly enjoyed those.
I participated on one panel and talked about the dynamics around the world that work against us. In short, I talked about why everybody hates us (domainers), and what we should do about it.

Our friends at Fabulous are working on the new Traffic show, Traffic Down Under. The projections I hear are over 250 attendees. As .Com.Au is a hot domain extension these days (the Australian government recently made some chances to the .AU registry) I expect many local businesses to attend as well.
Unfortunately I may not be able to attend however RMG CEO Darren Cleveland as well as RMG Co-founder/CTO Jeff Bhavnanie will.

The IDNC WG recommended that as part of the implementation plan of the IDN ccTLD "fast-track" process a request for information (RFI) is sent out to all territories to gain an understanding of the interest of individual territories to participate in the Fast Track process. Participation in the RFI is not be mandatory to be eligible for an IDN ccTLD under the Fast Track.
In recent weeks the CEO & President of ICANN has written to national governments about the introduction of IDNs at the lop level of the domain name system, and to seek their assistance in forecasting the number of countries and territories interesting in seeking an IDN ccTLD/s through the "fast track: process.

ICANN needs to take steps to ensure it cannot be taken over by
governments and other outside entities, and it needs to create more
ways to be held accountable to Internet users, constituents of the
nonprofit organization said Wednesday reports IDG News Service.

One goal of ICANN is to ensure the accuracy of Whois data. To this end, registrars are required to promptly deal with notices of inaccuracies in the contact information of any domains registered through them. ICANN regularly audits registrars for their compliance with this.
In the course of an audit by ICANN, it appeared that two registrars - Joker.com, which manages over 600,000 domains, and DNS.com.cn, which manages over 300,000 domains - were not properly following up on complaints about inaccurate Whois data. Upon further investigation, ICANN found that that there was compelling evidence that neither registrar was properly dealing with these complaints.
In the circumstances, ICANN has issued notices to both registrars that they are in breach of their contract with ICANN. This gives both registrars 15 days to deal with the issue. If they do not do so, ICANN can take other actions, such as terminating their status as registrars.

More than $3 million in premium domain names were purchased during Moniker’s live auctions at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. New York
domain conference last week. In total, 148 domains — more than half the
available lot — were purchased during the auctions. The average buyer
spent over $20,000 during the two events hosted by Moniker.
