NASK, the Polish Research and Academic Computer Network is also the national Registry for the .PL domain extension. It happens that .pl is one of the most excellently developing ccTLD in Europe. A millionth .pl domains has been registered in May 2008 as we reported and NASK focuses their attention now on supporting to the domain names aftermarket. The registration of .PL works according to the “first come – first served” principle, prior-rights are not checked and no local presence is required...
The standard registration period is for 1 year but it is possible to register a domain for up to 10 years. Dynamic Updates are run every 15 minutes and the Registry is planning to shorten it to every 5 minutes starting August 1st, 2008.
Registrars, also known as ‘Partners’ are handling 96 percent of the names registered under .PL and in case of the ongoing domain registration the Partners’ share is close to 100 percent. NASK concluded Registry-Registrar agreements with 95 entities, including 38 foreign companies. Accreditation process is easy and short. It consist of signing the agreement, paying security payment and passing EPP communication tests.
