GoDaddy has been having problems with the commencement of .me registrations this week, with many potential registrants supposedly successfully going through the registration process only to find they subsequently receive an email advising them their registration has failed.
Twitter has been inundated with some registrants finding they are only
one of several who supposedly have successfully registered the same
domain name.
A response from Go Daddy published on Mashable says “We knew the .ME
Open Registration response would be tremendous, but it went beyond even
what we had expected. As a result, we experienced some system issues in
our communication with the registry. As soon as we became aware of the
issue we began taking steps to correct it. It is now resolved.”
Some of the domains that have multiple owners are hug.me with around
half a dozen registrants, reported by TechCrunch, and aweso.me with
eight or nine, reported by Mashable.
However not all registrars were having problems. EuroDNS was one registrar not to report any problems according Frederick Schiwek,Managing Director of Domain Invest, a EuroDNS subsidiary saying they had experienced no problems to date, with the registration process running smoothly.
