.ES Approaches One Million Registrations
With 973,894 domain names registered at the beginning of June, .ES is
the latest ccTLD to be approaching the magical one million mark.
Already in the first five months of 2008 registrations have increased
20 per cent.
The increase in .es domain registrations has, in part, been fuelled by
programmes and initiatives such as the Young People in the Network and
No Company Without the Web. As a result of the latter programme, more
than 24,000 small to medium enterprises have registered domain names.
Meanwhile the initiative to get young people online has resulted in 27,827 young people under the age of 30 years taking advantage of the initiative. This offer ends on July 15. The initiative gives young people their own domain name and the tools for creating a website for one year including blog tools and hosting, email and social multimedia tools. See https://www.jovenesenred.es/ for more information, although it is in Spanish only.
When broken down into regions, Madrid has the most domain name registrations with 23.9 per cent, followed by Catalonia (16.83%), Andalusia (13,23) and the Valencian Community (12.86%).
