17th November - A few hours before the launch of its Grandfather
period, the CO.NL Operator is proud to announce that the Czech Arbitration
Court (CAC) has agreed to commit the resources of its Online Dispute Resolution
Platform to .CO.NL domain names.
“.CO.NL’s goal has always been to provide a credible alternative while ensuring third-party rights are respected in the name space”, comments Sander Scholten, General Manager, “Our Grandfather and Sunrise periods are designed to allow trademark holders to secure their names on a priority basis and we believe CAC’s support is another major step in ensuring potential disputes, that may still arise, are dealt with in the most effective way”.
The Czech Arbitration Court was chosen in 2005 by the European Commission to act as sole Alternative Dispute Resolution Provider for .EU Domain Names and was recently appointed as an Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy provider (UDRP) by ICANN. Under the mutual understanding between CAC and the .CO.NL Operator, disputes involving domain names bearing the “.co.nl” ending will be dealt with using CAC’s modern online platform, and rulings will be based on rules similar to those of the .EU Domains.
“Being able to use the CAC platform and set of rules will ensure that any potential .co.nl dispute will get a fair and expedient process”, adds Luc Seufer, Legal advisor to the .CO.NL operator, “the stability and strong reputation of the CAC makes .co.nl an even stronger opportunity for trademark owners and service providers to confidently use the .CO.NL name space”.
The .CO.NL Operator will start its Grandfather Period on November 18th, allowing holders of .NL domains to get a priority registration in the .CO.NL space. Sunrise Period will start on February 10th and will be dedicated to Trademark holders while the Landrush, open to anyone, will start on March 17th.
