The dotFree Group intends to apply for the .FREE generic Top Level
Domain assuming ICANN approves the concept and begins accepting
applications. The idea of a .FREE name is the domain name would be free,
up to a point.
There will be strict limitations on the allocation of the free domain
names. Domain Incite conducted an email interview with dotFree chief
executive Dominique Piatti that covers the basics of the business model
and contains a few surprises.
In the interview, Piatti says that should .FREE come to fruition there
will be a limit of one domain name per person, with an open aftermarket
and a cost of $5 per year for premium names.
