The prime minister of Flanders Kris Peeters has said he will look into
a gTLD for the region, in the northern part of Belgium reports The Register. The Flanders region also covers parts of France and The Netherlands.
Peeters is interested in vla, .vln, .vlaanderen or .fla to represent
the distinctive region while parliament member Mark Demesmaeker favours
.vla as it represents the Dutch word for Flanders, Vlaanderen.
In recent months there has been tension in Belgium between the Flemish
speaking Flanders region and the poorer French speaking region, that
resulted in months of negotiations following an election as neither
side could agree on a prime minister.
