European SMEs with a .eu domain name were in focus at a dinner held at the European Parliament on 2 June 2010. During an interview now published on YouTube, dinner host Malcolm Harbour, MEP and Chairman of the Internal Market Committee of the European Parliament, discussed the importance of European SMEs being online and using the .eu domain.
Responding to a question regarding the competitive nature of the domain name market, Malcolm Harbour said:
“The power of the .eu name for a business that is genuinely working on a European playing field is extremely good because it makes a statement to your customers that this is an international business, a business focusing on the European single market. Therefore I think it makes the customer feel more comfortable, whether they are buying in Slovakia, Finland or Portugal. With the .eu name, it is an added indication of where you position yourself in the marketplace.”
