EURID partnered with UNESCO to examine the global use of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs),which support non-Latin scripts and multilingualism online .
The study,conducted by Eurid in collaboration with the United Nations Educations,Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) review experiences of deploying IDN ccTLDs,such as السعودية . (Saudi Arabia) and .рф (Russian Federation).The study revealed that both السعودية . and .рф IDN ccTLDs show strong public demand
.рф domain names reached 800,000 in March 2011 and the current registration rate of .рф is of 32,000 per month.
As of today,there are two Cyrillic extensions : рф and срб,while domain names in national languages are several dozens .( Arabic,Chinese,Indian)
Moreover,Eurid talks about the IDN registrations at the second level ,which is available three scripts : Latin,Cyrillic and Greek .The three languages reflect the official languages of the EU Member States .From December 2009,when Eurid launched its landrush for IDN registrations and until December 2011,nearly 69,000 .eu IDNs had been registered
