"The second annual SIDN Internet Awards ceremony will take place on 10 November 2011, during the Jubilee Congress that SIDN is organising in Zaandam to mark twenty-five years of the .nl domain. By making the awards, SIDN – the company behind .nl – wishes to reward individuals, businesses and other organisations in the Netherlands for the contributions that they make to economic, social and/or personal aspects of the information society.
Opportunities for innovation in the sharing and enrichment of knowledge
Individuals, businesses and other organisations in the Netherlands are once again invited to enter for an SIDN Internet Award in one of five categories. Three of the five award categories - ‘Government and citizens in dialogue’, ‘The power of the network’ and ‘A secure internet’ – are the same as in 2010. The award category ‘The internet and the environment’ has been redefined slightly and renamed ‘Internet and sustainability’. Finally there is a new category for 2011, ‘Knowledge transfer in the digital world’, reflecting the value of knowledge sharing and enrichment via the internet.
Innovative approach rewarded
The first ever SIDN Internet Awards were presented in front of a large audience during the ECP-EPN Annual Congress at Scheveningen’s Circus Theatre on 25 November 2010. Among the winners was SNS Bank’s no-threshold internet banking service. Arnie Kornneef, Marketing Director at SNS Bank commented: ‘SNS is the first financial service provider in the Netherlands to secure an SIDN Internet Award. The expert jury decided that our approach to no-threshold internet banking for all dovetailed perfectly with the goal of getting more people active on line.’
Entries
Entries can be made at www.sidn.nl/awards. Three projects in each category will be selected for a presentation round, in which entrants appear before the jury. The SIDN Internet Awards 2011 will be presented at Zaandam’s Taets Gallery on 10 November, during the Jubilee Congress that SIDN is organising to mark twenty-five years of the .nl domain. SIDN’s Internet Awards offer entrants the opportunity to raise their profile and focus attention on their contribution to internet security and accessibility. "
