"The Honorable Judge S. James Otero, for the US District Court for the Central District of California, set a trial date today of December 13, 2011 in DONE! Ventures, LLC’s breach of contract lawsuit against NBC Universal over the domains Women.com and Women.net.
The suit, filed by DONE! in June 2010, states NBC Universal accepted a $1 million offer to sell the domain names through domain name broker Sedo.com, LLC, whom NBC hired to represent them, but is refusing to complete the transaction.
“We had a deal,” DONE! Ventures CEO Benjamin L. Padnos said. “And as a result of NBC’s unwillingness to honor their agreement, I’ve already lost nine months of very valuable time I could have spent building a business around these incredible domains. However, I’m extremely pleased that the judge honored our request to expedite the case, and I look forward to winning at trial.”
In the complaint, DONE! asks the Court to enforce “specific performance” in the million-dollar transaction, requiring NBC Universal to transfer ownership of the domains.
Padnos added, “Women.com and Women.net are irreplaceable assets to us. The names are critical to our business plan, and we are committed to completing the transaction.”
“The facts are simple,” Stephen Svajian, one of DONE!’s attorneys said. “My client made an offer, and NBC accepted the offer. That’s a contract. We intend to enforce that contract at the trial.”
Founded in 2001 by Internet entrepreneur Benjamin Padnos, DONE! Ventures, LLC is an Internet marketing and publishing firm based in Manhattan Beach, CA."
