A major international conference in Sydney will look at how to expand the internet's address system, known as domain names.
Paul Levins from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers says about 1,000 delegates, including some of the inventors of the internet, will attend the week-long conference.
Mr Levins says the main focus will be the expansion of new domain names.
There are currently only 21 generic top-level domains like dot com, dot org and dot info, and there are intense discussions on how best to lift that ceiling.
