There are 7.86 million domain names registered in China - .COM domains account 3.7 million of these registrations, or 47.1 per cent of the total number of domain names registered within China, while there were 3.5 million .CN domain names, 44.6 per cent of all domains.
The figures come from the latest report on the state of the internet in China at the end of June 2011 using statistics from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) in a report published by research firm iResearch China.
The report also notes that at December 2010, China's Internet based services market size is worth $5.25 billion, with domain name registration market revenues accounted for 15.4 per cent of this total or $808.5 million.
