The Internet Association Japan and other Internet-related organizations said Monday they have set up a joint body to manage the use of the kanji character for Japan as its Internet domain name.
ICANN, which manages domain names or addresses on the Internet, currently limits them to English. The use of the kanji character for Japan as its domain name will take effect possibly in 2010 if the ICANN authorizes the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry’s recommendation of the newly established organ as the manager of the new Japanese country code.
